Unpopular opinion: reaction emoji

Fucking hate it.

I can’t stand the Apple iMessage feature where you can “react” to a text message (the heart, exclamation points, “ha ha!” and I forget what else). If it’s something that needs a reply, just say “okay” or “I understand” or “thank you.”

The “thumbs up” emoji also irritates me. It feels smug or like it just wants you to shut up.

If I say something funny, I’d rather see a “LOL” or “LMFAO” or whatever funny old school text speak you’re inspired to send.

I don’t mind it so much when you’re adding support or solidarity or emotions to posts on social media, but text messaging? It just feels cold and disinterested.
